Who we are
Ashton Community Charity (“we”, “us”, “the charity”), formerly The Linen and Woollen Stock Charity, registered charity number 221789, of C/O 41 Kiveton Drive, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, Greater Manchester WN4 9EX, is the “data controller” for the personal information described in this notice. The information we collect
When you apply for help, or someone applies on your behalf, we may collect:
- names and contact details (for the applicant and, where different, the person, family or organisation being helped);
- address, area and postcode, to confirm eligibility for our Ashton-in-Makerfield area;
- details of the help requested and the circumstances behind it, which may include information about financial hardship, household or family circumstances, and children;
- for community, school or club applications, details of the organisation and the people it supports;
- the details of a professional (such as a social worker, teacher or health visitor) who can verify an application.
Some of this is “special category” information (for example relating to health, or information about children). We only collect what we need to consider your application fairly.
How we collect it
Mainly through our online application form, through referrals from professionals working with you, and through any correspondence you have with us.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your information to:
- assess and decide on applications for help;
- administer any grant or assistance and arrange payment;
- contact you about your application and ask for any further information;
- keep proper records of the charity's work and decisions.
Our lawful basis for using ordinary personal information is [our legitimate interests as a grant-making charity / consent, to be confirmed by the trustees]. Where we handle special category information, we rely on [the “not-for-profit body” condition / your explicit consent, to be confirmed], which is why we ask you to confirm on the form that the people being helped are aware of and consent to the application.
Who we share it with
Applications are shared with our board of trustees, who consider them in confidence in order to reach a decision. We do not sell your information or use it for marketing. We may use trusted service providers to help us run the website and receive applications securely, and they may only use your information on our instructions. We may share information where we are required to by law.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only for as long as we need it: to consider and process your request for help, and to keep records and statistics on how we have helped people. After that, it is securely deleted or destroyed.
Keeping your information secure
We take appropriate measures to keep your information safe and to prevent unauthorised access, and we limit access to those who need it to carry out the charity's work.
Cookies
This website does not use cookies or any tracking technology, and does not collect analytics about your visit. We only process the information you choose to send us through the application or contact forms.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information, or to restrict or object to how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
