Supporting individuals, families and community groups in the Ashton-in-Makerfield area since 1588.
Our story
Founded in 1588, the charity’s original purpose was to provide linen and woollen clothing to local people in need. For over 400 years we have been here to offer practical support when it is needed most.
Today, as Ashton Community Charity (previously the Linen and Woollen Stock Charity), we continue that legacy by offering grants and assistance to residents of the Ashton-in-Makerfield area experiencing financial hardship or other challenges.
Our mission
We exist to support individuals, families and community organisations in the Ashton-in-Makerfield area. Our focus is on practical help: funding essentials, supporting health and wellbeing, and enabling local groups to deliver services that benefit the community.
Our trustees
A volunteer board of trustees oversees the charity’s work and ensures all funds are used to benefit the community. Every application for help is considered carefully and confidentially by the board, who decide together how the charity can best assist.
